A book for women who want to know how men think.
One of my all-time favorite books. The story, "Women Don't Know", is worth the price of admission all by itself.

a terrific sequel to Liza's Blue Moon
Again, I give a "10" to this book. Diane Stevens can really write the perfect Young Adult book. Like her first book, this book made me laugh aloud several times and cry as well. Absolutely one of the best books that I have read this year.

Lone Star and Double Eagle: Civil War Letters of a German-Texas Family
Published in Paperback by Texas Christian Univ Pr (October, 1982)
Author: Minetta Altgelt Goyne
Average review score:

Excellent piece of suberb research on a little known subject
Ms. Altglet shows off her obviously suberb knowledge of the ancient German language and also her ability to dig deeply into little known subject matter. Her explanations of the various details of these marvelous letters between several sons and their father during the Civil War read like you were there in the parlor while they were being read. I learned a great deal about the Texas German involvement in the war. My hat's off to a delightful author.

The Lone Star Gardener's Book of Lists

A Must for the Texas Gardener
Texas is a large state and includes several hardiness zones. How can one book give advice covering such a variety of climate and soils?? This one does - ranging from the Rio Grande Valley to the high plains of the panhandle. Rather than trying to give all information about all plants listed in the more than 200 lists, this is a shopping list and a guideline of what will thrive and do well in a particular part of the state.

Given are not only lists of the common names but also the scientific names of the plants included. And there are lists that cover almost any conceivable type of plant.

Just as an example, the chapter entitled "Annual Color" includes "Annuals for Alkaline Soil", "Annuals for Beginners', "Bulbs for Central Texas", "Annuals for Sunny, Hot, Dry Places", "Annuals for the Beach", "Cool-Season Annuals", "Wait Until its Really Warm to Plant These", "Texas Specialty Cut Flowers", "Anuals for Fragrance", "Kathy Huber's Favorite Summer Annuals", "Everlasting Flowers", "Annuals That Do Well In the Shade", "Annuals You Can Plant In The Heat Of Summer", "Annuals For Hanging Baskets"," Tallest Annuals For The Back Of A Border", "Annuals For Naturalizing", "Super Easy Flowers From a Packet of Seed", "Annuals That Bloom From Spring to Frost if You Deadhead", "Annuals That Bloom Unaided from Spring to Frost", "Greg Grant's Surefire Annuals and Bulbs", "Bulbs All Year Round".

In addition to Annuals, chapters are devoted to perennials - ferns and ground cover - kitchen gardens - roses - tropicals, succulents, and exotics - shrubs - trees - vines - special lists and gardens - books - magazines - websites, etc.

This books is especially useful to garden enthusiasts moving to Texas from other States. I am a Texas Master Gardener and maintain a gardening web-site. I receive many email requests for growing conditions in Texas. Since this book has been published, my job of answering these questions has been made much easier - my answer is "Secure a copy of 'The Lone Star Gardener's Book of Lists' ".

Lone Star Generals in Gray
Published in Hardcover by Eakin Publications (September, 2000)
Author: Ralph A. Wooster
Average review score:

"Must" reading for all Civil War buffs and historians.
Texas played an important role in the American Civil War, providing more than 70,000 Texans to the Confederate armies. Thirty-seven of those Texans served as general officers and included such notable battlefield commanders as Albert Sidney Johnston, John Bell Hood, Ben McCulloch, Samuel Bell Maxey, and Tom Green. In Lone Star Generals In Gray, history and author Ralph Wooster provides substantial insight into the careers of these Confederate general officers from Texas and sets them within the broader context of Texan involvement in the War Between The States. These were men who led (and in some cases, misled) their troops in a uniquely Texan way. Lone Star Generals In Gray is informative, vivid, fascinating, illuminating and insightful reading for students of the Civil War and the history of Texas.
